Holiday Tours at the Historic Sites
|The holiday season is just around the corner and so are the Holiday Tours at the Historic Sites.
Full time and part time staff gathered earlier this month to clean the buildings and decorate. On November 12 decorators from different community groups will come to decorate the Hackley House. The groups include the Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce, Delta Kappa Gamma, Women’s Club, and the Lakeshore Museum’s own volunteers Jane Arndt and Barb Lloyd. We greatly appreciate the time and resources it takes to make the Historic Sites look great for these specialized tours.
Last year we decided to try something new in the Hackley house. Each room will interpret a Christmas tradition that formed during the Victorian Era, when the family lived in the house. From candy canes to poinsettias, to the feast, we are giving insight into why we celebrate Christmas the way we do.
This year at the Hume house we are interpreting 1920s Christmas. We know that 19 people called the Hume House home during one point in the 1920s. Can you imagine going through the holiday season living with so many people?
The Fire Barn Museum and Scolnik House of the Depression Era will also be decorated for the holidays again this year. Admission is $5 at the Hackley & Hume Historic Site for visitors 13 and older; guests 12 and younger are admitted free. Admission is free for all ages at the Fire Barn
|Museum and Scolnik House of the Depression Era. The tour schedule has been adjusted this year to better meet the needs of our guests. It is noted below.|
